Senior Planner/Buyer 

Our client company, headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico is a leading provider of  high efficiency solar cells, solar panels, and composite structural products for satellite and  aerospace applications. They are the world’s only vertically integrated, end-to-end supplier  of satellite solar arrays. Our client’s proven flight heritage, high volume production  capability and technology position us to service the world’s most demanding satellite  applications. Since 2001, our client’s solar cells or panels have supplied primary power to  over 480 successful space missions.   

Our client company has an immediate need for a Sr. Planner/Buyer to assist as a full time position. 


  • The Sr. Planner/Buyer plans, leads, and implements activities related to the timely and  cost-effective procurement of direct and indirect materials, capital equipment, utilities,  and services. 
  • Ensures the availability of materials in the supply chain, as scheduled, and the  maintenance of inventory at minimum acceptable levels. 
  • Responsible for negotiation, contract development, supplier selection and  relationship management. 


  • Oversees the purchasing of services and supplies including machinery, equipment,  tools, and raw materials. 
  • Establishes clear and defined communication paths between purchasing,  engineering, and operations teams. 
  • Executes the organization’s strategic procurement goals and objectives by leading  negotiation efforts with suppliers. 
  • Evaluates price trends, new products and manufacturing processes to establish cost  reduction targets.
  • Monitors the cost, schedule and performance factors of critical suppliers. • Sets up cross-functional teams to achieve improvement within the supply chain. • Identifies supplier non-conformances when they occur and participates in finding the  solution to the non-conformance. 
  • Deploys the Quality Management System as it applies to the scope of work. 


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty  satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/ or ability required. 

  • Highly Skilled and Experienced in Strategic Sourcing, Negotiation, and Material  Planning. 
  • Capable of identifying internal and external schedule disconnects, taking action by  calling meetings with required functions/personnel to negotiate actions necessary for  effective resolution. 
  • Data driven / results oriented with a high level of initiative and a desire to make a  positive impact to the organization. 
  • Knowledge of and working experience with ERP, inventory control and MRP systems is  desirable 
  • Ability to solve both practical problems and interpret and communicate complex  issues 
  • Detail-oriented, well organized, and able to work both independently and as part of a  team 
  • Strong analytical, computer, and written and verbal communication skills • Requires excellent time management and prioritization skills to effectively react to and  anticipate the needs of the business 
  • Experience in make-to-order, customer-specialized manufacturing is desirable • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional technical procedures, engineering  drawings, or government regulations. 
  • Knowledge of semiconductor devices is a plus. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory  agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and  make thoughtful decisions.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent level of education or experience to sufficiently and  successfully perform the essential job functions. 


  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience, 3 of which must be in a similar role leading a  supply chain department or team. 
  • Progressive experience in Supply Chain, Operations, and or related technical field  desired.
